Feeling that latte rhythm
Some baristas’ hands shook as they created elaborate rosette and heart patterns during Coffee Fest’s sixth annual latte-art competition Friday at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center. A lot is riding on this year’s contest, including a $5,000 grand prize. The $4,000 increase from last year helped double the number of contestants to 50, many from out of state and a few from overseas. A second preliminary round and the final contest will be held today at the trade show, which is not open to the public. Baristas said it’s much easier to do latte art without an audience and with equipment they know. “There’s a huge difference. I pour my best stuff at work,” said Justin Teisl from Alterra Coffee Roasters in Milwaukee, who finished first in Friday’s round.
